The passenger window has been giving me fits for about a year now. Today it went all the way down and now it won't come back up.
In the past whenever I put the window all the way up it would "relax" a bit when I let off the switch. It would also "coast" to a stop when I rolled it down (weak motor?). Whenever it would get "stuck", I could just give it some of the down/up treatment with the switch and it would go back up. But... since it is all the way down, that isn't working.
I checked the search function, as I know this is a common issue, but I don't know if this an electrical issue, a motor issue, a reg. issue, grease/bearings, etc?? I can't hear the motor running/straining when I try to raise the window.
If there is no motor noise at all, the first place to look is at the electronics.
However, given its pension for "coasting" (which is a good analogy by the way) it could well be that the drive pins in the gear head on the motor have been crushing for a while and finally let go today. They are an easy fix but make certain the motor is still functioning before bothering to replace them. If you get stuck try a search using the keyword "Delrin". Thats the polymer the pins are made from.
With key on- push pass. window switch in down position while watching the dome light-does it dim slightly?Should, since window went down - now do it in the up poss, does the light dim slightly while holding in up IF it does you need to replace the window motor. Now to get window up now .If you have a battery charger, hook it up on jump start and turn key on and hit up poss on switch and slam door hard closed(have someone in drivers side hitting the master switch pass side up button while slamming door)If lights dimed before it will go up.No battery charger try running engine at about 1500 RPM and hit button while slamming door(sometimes takes 5-6 times to to get up)Windows only get stuck in fully up or fully down poss. greystreak is right. If there is no whine from the motor while you are trying to raise or lower the window leads to an electrical problem. Go from cheap to expensive...look at the fuse first, correct amperage and that it hasn't tripped, then check the connection at the motor (after pulling off the interior panel). Try to disassemble the motor and clean it up, and try it without it hooked up to the window. If it is still weak, replace. If the motor runs but the arm doesn't move, replace the derlin gear head. Make sure you put the supplied grease into the gear head. If not, you will be replacing it in about two months.

It worked!!
of all the odd ball home remedies. Only thing this one is missing is some duct tape and bailing wire.
My interior light dims when I try and roll the window down, but not when I try to roll it up. After 4-5 door slams and some switch play it went up. For Good!!
Now just need to decide if this is a fix now $$$ or a run it till it's broke for keeps kinda things and pay later.
What he had you do was bang the door around until the motor armature shifted enough to catch a good winding. Compare it to getting under a truck with a bad winding in the starter motor and smacking it with a hammer until the starter engages. The window motor obviously has a bad winding and needs replacement.
I'll admit its an ingenious method if rudimentary and a bit hard on the switch and door latch. But if it got the window up temporarily then I suppose its a good temporary fix.
I can't stop laughing . I just went through the exact same problem with a 92 Tempo. I stopped by my buddies shop and he told me to slam the door with the window button pushed. Surprise! the window went up. Just what Grey said. As long as it keeps going up and down I'll probably delay the replacement until it gets stuck in a major thunderstorm, I'm in a parking lot or on the side of the road pushing, slamming and cursing myself for being such a procrastinator. If it happens to go up then, I wonder if I'll continue to press my luck.
I've been having to do the "slam the door while holding the button" trick for a while now also... I think I did it by acciden by loosing my temper. After I took it apart and checked the bushings, and they were fine, I unplugged and cleaned the connections, then tried the motor with it unnatached. Seemed to work fine. Then put it all back together, including dynamat, and new vapor barrier, and it didn't work... Got pissed slammed the door, then it mysteriouslt worked again... for a while... Now it works intermitantly again.
Looks like I need a new motor also.
I've never know another manufacture with such consistant problems as Ford.
They seem to have a lot of the same problems year after year.
Door lock actuators, TFI modules, window motors/ regulators, ignition switches...
Maybe its the fact that the YOUNGEST of these truck are nearing 12 years of use. And I don't know about the rest of you but I kinda have come to expect a LOT from my Fords if for no other reason than... I CAN! So when the electronic components begin to hiccup, I figure its bound to happen sooner rather than later considering how "well used" the vehicle is.
Chevy- Chyrsler-Ford-Have done this them all at sometime!!!Worked in service dept at this Ford dealership since 1977 and it always happens to be someone passing through-or it messed up two days ago and now its getting ready to rain, or I have no money BUT CAN YOU JUST GET THE WINDOW CLOSED????? BLUE
i was just reading on FSB that the rear window motors and lock actuators from a ford taurus work in our bronco doors from 92-96. not sure about previous models thought.
The motors are the same across a LOT of the Ford, Lincoln,Mercury line... its the mountings that are slightly different. I still have the motors out of my uncle's 84 Lincoln Town car because as long as I'm willing to drill out some rivets and swap the brackets they will work in the truck as well.
