So, I have a good running engine that came from a craigslist buy, but I struck out on the AOD trans I got from another person. It was a $200 gamble. It doesn't shift into OD and seems to shift into 3rd after staying in 2nd for a looooong time. Baumann Engineering's FAQs says it's the Direct Clutch Pack that's gone and that since it's the last thing to come out of the trans to replace it I might as well rebuild the whole thing. Ho-hum. Sometimes I wish I had kept that small block C6 or maybe the C4 with the shift kit and brand new torque converter. I guess I am going to price a rebuilt trans tomorrow around town here in Campbell and get ready to drop the darn thing out of the truck.
Frustrating because I thought I was going to be able to drive it a while before getting back into modifying it some more.
Oh...and check out cafords.com , fairly large classified site in it, an a lot of Bay Area guys selling stuff...mainly a Mustang site, but good deals on tranny's/etc that you can use.
Are the vacuum lines alright. I had an old truck that did that, and the vacuum line that went down to the transmission had a hole in it. Just throwing it out there.
The kickdown on an aod is mechanical, unfortunately, no vacuum lines to a modulator valve.
Yeah, I got that kickdown adjustment nailed and tried increasing it a few psi on idle too. I have a lokar kickdown kit on it and originally had it adjusted to about 7 psi on idle. Just for a comparison I increased the tension one turn at a time and ran around the block. Four turns on the adjuster and no improvement. Shifted into 2nd got more firm and it still floated into 3rd. The BE Controls FAQs say it "neutralizes" in 3rd, whatever that means. It seemed to shift into 3rd, but really just barely held in gear at almost an idle while I went down the street. As soon as I hit the gas, it shifted into 2nd and stayed there.
Summit has TCI Streetfighter AODs for $1499.95 and Goodguys is this weekend so, I'm going to the show and look for a new tranny. Just look for the guy with his checkbook out, in front of the transmission gods, fighting back the tears! It hurts when I have to write a big check.
