Question AOD Trans Help?

Hey Folks, I've got my '56 running again finally. It only took almost three years for a simple engine/trans swap. Nothing is as it seems when I start one of my projects. Anyway, I've got the TCI AOD trans working pretty good, but there is just one more thing that's bugging me.

If any of you have an '87 to '93 Ford anything stock with a V8 and an AOD automatic, would you please go out and measure the radius of the cable pulley on the throttle body for the TV kickdown and tell me what it is? I've got a Demon carb on a 351C engine and a Lokar kickdown kit on my set up and I'm thinking the distance between the throttle rod center and the pivot pin that the TV cable hooks to is greater than the stock set up.

I adjusted the cable to get about 33psi with a .400" spacer between the cable stop and the end fitting like it says to in TCI's instructions, but when I take out the spacer there is about .200" of slack left in the cable. It shifts, but at sort of high rpms and doesn't downshift well either. Oh, and to protect the trans from burning up the clutch pack I installed TCI's constant pressure valve body.

Thanks in advance!
Craig

I went out to look at mine (from a '93 Cougar), but I took the bracket off (gonna have to find that someday...), but I don't know what you mean by "would you please go out and measure the radius of the cable pulley on the throttle body", as I remember it, it just a straight shot from the TV Bracket that bolts to the side of the plenum to the throttle boby, unless I lost more parts than I recall.

Can you post a pic?

Thanks Mike. I reread my post and realized I wasn't asking the question right.

I'm probably wrong about there being a pulley on the end of the throttle rod that sticks out of the throttle body. It's more than likely a lever arm instead. I need to know the length of that lever arm from the center of the throttle rod that it would be attached to, to the center of where the cable is connected to it. I had one open hole on my carb throttle lever that the Lokar cable stud could be attached and just used it. I'm thinking that it's too far away from the center of the throttle rod and therefore pulling too much cable when I hit the gas. That would mess up the trans shifting.

I'll get a pic up here tonight after work.

Hey Craig,

Mine is 1.25 inches from the center of the pivot shaft to the center of the hole.

Thanks! I forgot about the picture and instead went to Home Depot to price the corregated patio cover panels and all the stuff to install them. The projects never end!
