I was looking on ebay at 2 ch amps, and ran across a mitzu amp 650 watt. Has anybody ever had one of these or know of the quality of them. Looking to push (2) 8 in subs (150 rms, 300 max ea).
That amp is the modern day equivalent of the 80's era "300 watt equalizer/booster" from JC Whitney. A good name brand powered head unit probably makes equivalent power.
Edit: The 80's era unit mentioned above was *maybe* 5 watts x 2 usable power on a good day.
For longevity, get a big class D mono amp. You should take 300 watts as the lowest desired wattage (150x2) rms into 4 ohms. Don't be afraid to have more power than you need, and be able to turn down the power on the amp. Your amp will last longer, run much cooler and your subs will thank you.
If you shop around (read: google shop 600 watt amp class d) you should find some decent ~300 watt class d sub amps that would be ok for less than 200 dollars.
When comparing amps insist on comparing the specs at:
Wattage @ 4 ohms rms per channel < 1% THD x however many channels the amp has.
Don't be mislead by bridged, @ 2 ohms, or any other illusionary power inflation tactics.
Good info, especially on the mitzu amp, definitiely talked me out of buy a piece of junk from the sound of it. Any certain brand you recommend? How are pyramid or dual amps? Looking for a little power, not a whole lot.
