I can get my hands on an 01 f-250 7.3 with 160k miles for a song and dance. The problem with the truck is the compression I am told is between 230 & 330 in all 8 holes. What I am wondering is can bad injector o-rings cause this compression to drop? The miles on this motor seem low for it to be worn bore or rings, though I not sure how much idle time it has. The mechanic that has the truck just put a motor in another f-350 with similar miles and said it was washed down as well. This wrench is a cummins guy and I am not sure he knows the powerstroke very well.TIA
Id check blow-by. Navistar doesnt have a requirement for compression on the t444e, just blow-by if im not mistaken. Also ive heard that you can put a teaspoon of oil in the cylinder before checking compression to help seal the piston rings, might be worth a shot. But injector o-rings can give low compression numbers, they are cheap and easy enough to change. I did mine in 3hrs with air tools.
OT- Might you be a mason? with the name brickie I had to ask.
VQ2,I have found 350-400 for good compression,he thought it was suppose to be 6-700. The blow by is the only thing I have to go by right now,I was thinking that the o-rings could be shot putting air in the fuel and the crank case. She is tough to start (low compression)and runs pretty rough once warmed up and that is what got me thinking about the o=rings. I've been slinging mud for twenty years and like a couple of beers while tinkering with the truck but do not have time or space for a total tear down.
If those are the numbers then the engine needs a rebuild. either its dusted or it been beat to death. My guess is that its dusted from either a K+N drop in filter or a poorly maintain air box.

That's what I am afraid of and why I never snapped it up for 3500 bucks.I have a bad case of wishful thinking.lol
Damn! 3500 bucks... if the rest of the truck is worth more than that, go ahead and get it! put a remanned engine in there and you'll still be under $8000
