I will replace the water pump tomarrow, any one have a link or write up on r&r the water pump? So far does not look like a bad job to do, will try to leave the radiator in just to save time. I have a fan wrench but what do I need to hold the pulley when threading off the fan? The fan is reverse thread ifn I remember correctly????????? Any words of advice............
Fan is standard thread (right hand) not left hand. To hold the pulley you can try to put a wrench on the tensioner and apply pressure to the belt. Chances are this won't work so leave the belt on and try to get a bar to hold on the small bolt heads. They make a special holder for them but if you don't have one do what ever it takes. Sorry no write. pretty straight forward. Just a note though. Take a long punch or extension and set it on top of each of the thermostat housing bolts and whack them with a hammer. Hopefully that will shock them so they don't break off as they commonly do.
Couple other questions, is there a gasket under the thermostat housing or just sealer? And the special rubber seal does it go on dry or should I use a sealer?
rad does NOT need to come out. i did mine last week in about an hour had fan and shroud off allready though, really not difficult make note of different bolt lenghts though on removal.. Peace of cake.
Well I am figuring out that this is not going to get done today cause there is no o-ring in the box for the t-stat housing which wrecks my plans of getting done on Sunday ...................... Also missed a chance at a nice opportunity to do the IH water pump with the built in filter, wish I had thought of that before I ordered the NAPA pump , a spin on filter would be a nice up grade at this time, I are such a dope for not thinking of that earlier ................
Oh yea what about the pump to the block do I put that o-ring on dry or coat it with a little sealer???????
