The split is early or late '04, so if you don't have the '03 turbo you have the later pedestal version. If that rear bolt goes straight down you may be able to cut the head off and get the turbo out. The earlier pedestal, like mine, that bolt goes in the side, so even if you cut the head off the bolt shank would still be in the way of removing the turbo.
Yes am am 100% resurecting this from the dead but is this true?
I read through another link that said it is likely to need to be cut off?
The PO or his mechanic has been on that bolt and looks to have left me a doosie. My thought is that if it is bolted to the pedestal, i could grind the head off (if necessary), get the turbo out and then remove the rest of the bolt from the pedestal on the bench?
Please let me know. If i would need to pull the cab I may just stop working right now and take it in.
A 6pt one of these seems to be reccomended?
If it is stripped just goto sears and get some nut/bolt extractor set. Works on rounded nuts/bolts great! You might also want to soak in pb for a day prior...

I wouldn't want to have to use an extractor set back there, they aren't fun to operate by braille.
I just did this on my 03...... ripped a rearview mirror out of a wrecked neon behind the shop, stuck it against the firewall, and welded a 6 pt socket to the flange on the bolt. All in mirror view, better than blind though! I just bought mine a while ago and I think the previous owner knew about the troubles it had been having. Otherwise I am not sure I would have gotten the deal I did. I know that he knew what the problem was because all three turbo bolts were rounded............... Only thing that would have been nicer is if I could have hooked up the lights in the rearview mirror.... Kinda dark back there.
Oh, another tip, If you have an extra 6 pt socket lying around like so many of us may have, grind off the end so you have a flat surface, it makes it a touch more difficult to get on, but it gives more grip area on the sides of the nut..... not by much, but you never know could be just enough..... Helped me!

The set that i have are like regular sockets. They bite onto the bolt with no effort. I forget where i had to use it on my bimmer but it was up around something and only had my finger tips to guide it on. Came out with no effort. Definetly worth trying before u pull out a grinder or welder, lolz...
Well according to this information i could be "ok" grinding it out. Hopefully it does not come to that but it definitely possible. Luckily its vertical and i can probably fill a junk socket with JB weld and slap it on if i have too.
