95 PSD that I just purchased. The trans shifts good until I guess it warms up. Then it begins having trouble shifting into 3rd gear. If I let off the gas(?) pedal it will reluctantly shift into 3rd. The OD light starts flashing and then every shift bangs into gear, still reluctant to go into 3rd. Turn the truck off and back on and it shifts fine again for a short time and then the same thing happens. Trans fluid level is good and does not smell burnt. What gives, is there a rebuild in my near future? Such a short marriage for it to already turn sour.
sounds like its slipping goin into third gear. but, i'm no trans man. but, could be a number of things. try shifting by hand and see if it shifts good that way.
No, it will raise line pressure anytime the computer sets a code and flashes the OD light. The ONLY way to diagnose this is the get the code read. Without that all you can do is spend money until you stumble on the problem.
don't it almost have to be slippage to up the line pressure?
If all the gears were sluggish i would say possible.
Problem is 3rd gear. So this would have me believe that the issue is down stream passed the modulator.
Its a jump ahead (WAG) without pulling the code.
mark, i kinda disagree. i know i'm a trans idiot, but this last go-around with my trans when it wouldnt shift it threw a light, but didnt up the line pressure. it didnt the clutches nor drums slipped, the case was warped, allowing cross flow.
no, like i said i am a trans idiot. i was just saying that mine has flashed before without the line pressures raising. i got a 1728 trans slip, but the pressure did not seem to raise at all. i don't know what caused it. it was just my experience. maybe it malfunctioned? i don't know.
What pressure were you running before the light flashed? What pressure were you running when it was flashing? If you know that it didn't raise the pressure you know there numbers.
Now if you had cross flow all pressures are suspect because of internal leakage. So while the PCM and EPC are raising the pressure it's just leaking out into other circuits.
