Is the shifter just sloppy or do you have it not wanting to shift into the gears. There is an adjusting screw under the column on the right side, but that is for the cable to take out a little slack from the shifter.
No problems getting it into gear, it just has alot of play in all directions.
To: dothadamthang, Thank you for the great pics. I opened my steering column and found the black wire was very tight, in addition there was a clip that was clamped onto the black wire. The main wire is (spiraled) by another wire. I do NOT think the clamp should have been so tight. It could be crushing the two wires together. I took off the plastic clamp. There was some discoloration. So, I also taped it as a precation.
However, I think the outside sheath should be removed for further inspection. Thanks, BIGGJOE
Mine was broken inside the wrap, right where it exited the shift lever. I was able to remove the wires, solder the broken wire, and replace. Took about an hour. Jim

After a Google of a few key words, I found this forum post.... My excursion was having the EXACT same problem and symptoms... So I decided to take apart the column to have a look...
After examining the wires that lead from the overdrive button, I notice a tiny spot that had rubbed away with exposed wires.... Apparently, this rubbing came from numerous shifting over the last couple years.... I simple wrapped the wire with electrical tape and repositioned the wire to avoid reoccurrence..
I KNOW this is an OLD thread...but I'm having issues (see my new post on my issues)...
I am going to pull the steering column covers tomorrow and look for frayed/exposed wires since I had the OD light flashing along with the ABS light...but I'm confused why the speedo is off...but I guess it could be messing with the grounds...
Regardless...I have some questions for this group...
HOW DO YOU REMOVE what you need to remove?...is this in a tech folder somewhere on how to remove the ignition switch/etc?...I have found in my life I tend to BREAK things if I don't know what I'm doing!...LOL.
If you guys can point me to the proper location to figure out how to remove the ignition switch...I would be much appreciative!
Thanks and sorry for resurfacing such an old post...but the pictures are awesome!
I believe the release the ignition switch/cylinder is at the bottom...get something to poke the release (looks like a little ball bearing) and pull the switch out.
