Temperature coolant sensor

Okay 92 2.3 ltr.
Coolant sensor on dash is at bottom and once running a while moves up a little but below the NORMAL markings. I see a sensor on one of the heater hoses, where should i look to get this fixed. It gets warm here in TX and i want to know how my truck is cooling or not cooling.

Thanks

From what I understand on the temp sensors...... the one at the outlet of the thermostat is the one that feeds information to the computer.........there is another on the driver side of the block just above (i think) the oil filter. The block sensor is the one that feeds information to the dash.

Powerkleen is correct. Above the sensor on the block is the oil pressure switch on the head.

Do a search on here.... there is a way to ground the sensor to the block and i believe it should read HOT.

If my memory serves me correctly, disconnect the single wire from the sensor at the rear of the engine block, turn on the ignition, and ground the wire. If the gage is working properly, the needle will swing to the hot range. If that is the case, replace that sensor. The other sensor sends information to the computer.

The device that controls the gauge is not a sensor, it is called a sender. It serves a different purpose than a sensor. The above method for checking the gauge is correct. Disconnect the wire from the sender and the gauge should show no reading. Touch the wire from the sender to the engine block, or any ground and the gauge should move full hot. If it doesn't, the gauge itself or the wiring to it is faulty. The sender should read a couple hundred ohms to ground cold.

You problem could also be a thermostat that is stuck full open. This will not allow the water temp to come up. jd
