I'm trying to sell my 04 f-150 to buy another ranger and i'm trying to get the best mpg. I know i want the 2.3 duratec 5 speed and i really want the long bed but how much if any mpg loss will it take over the short bed? What kinda of real world mpg am i looking at. I know what the epa says and i've read lots of post about what other people get but can i really expect 25 mpg mixed driving?
The long bed is available with a larger gas tank than the short bed model if you plan to order your truck, but the extra (roughly 500 lbs.) weight will cut mileage a bit.
Personally, I don't think you will see much difference either way. My son has an 04 short bed with the 2.3 and automatic and he gets 25/30. The automatic doesn't get as good as a manual. So if you get a long bed with a manual it should = out about the same as his short bed with an auto.
