IDPisan,

Found it. I'll check the Idaho Turbo Diesels site, too, just to make sure.

From my experience, a switch will set off a CEL. That's why i dont have mine in anymore. Bravo on the results!
Reps sent! that's quite the post!

Absolutely a switch will set the CEL to avoid getting the light what works is a normal POT wired into the same wire as the mod, works for me I have a 10k one I am using now and turn it up or down while I'm driving and no CEL If a switch is used the truck will have to be shut off to switch to a different resistance.

I agree with the switch setting a CEL. The potentiometer would be great if I could reliably turn it to a specific setting everytime. I've dyno'd my truck with the different resistors, so I know what she likes and what she doesn't like, too.

The switch settings would be changed when the truck is off. I'm well past my street-racing days (can't believe I actually survived that phase). I like knowing that a certain setting will give a certain amount performance increase. The POT, to me, isn't repeatable enough to make the changes I expect.

Right now, I'm running the 14.7K resistor. Who knows, I may just use the single resistor and change it when I'm in the mood.

Yeah I agree the potentiometer would not be for what you are trying to accomplish and believe me I'm past the street racing thing too LOL

I read the same post you are referring to (switch under the hood in a pill bottle) that would be the way you want to go ti accomplish what you are trying to do.

good luck and thanks for posting your findings with all the different resistors that is good info.

Here are the updated numbers I produced using the different resistor combinations with my truck and the new tranny, TC and flexplate (they've only been in the truck for about two weeks at this posting):

Stock 144.4 / 305.4 16.5 MPG
5.6K 135.6 / 285.5 MPG Not calculated (I think I grabbed the 4.7K instead of the 5.6K resistor so I'm disregarding this result until I run again with the new exhaust installed)
10K 159.3 / 341.5 MPG Not calculated
14.7K 166.0 / 351.2 MPG Not calculated
15.5K 199.8 / 372.3 MPG Not calculated
20.3K 155.0 / 329.1 MPG Not calculated

looks like the 15.5 is the big winner this time. Are you going to do a mpg test again?

I ran the dyno at the Diesel Exstravaganza in Terre Haute, IN and was satisfied with my numbers of 256.4/400.8. Are these any good this was my first dyno run?

Joe sorry it took me so long it was a crazy weekend, two truck pulls, three cookout, and one honey do list. No it is not a cali truck and I am like you just wanted to see where I stand.

If you wanted to use resistors you could set up so that your highest value resistor would always stay connected to the circut say 20K. Then if you wanted to drop to 15k you would add a 30k resistor in parallel. I had to look it up but this is the formula that you would use .((R1 * R2)/(R1 + R2)) . I have a 0 to 20k pot that in the dash and can change to resistance on the fly

one question I had is what elevation are you at? at sea level that truck should make in the mid 160's in stock trim with a good trans in full lockup.

Those numbers are good for a penny mod but even an old evo will put down 220 and a DP chip can do even more with just an exhaust.

The edge juice products fool the map and icp for power, along with a few other tricks. True tuning puts the trickery method to shame for power and drive-ability.

I agree with the "true tuning" versus "trickery" comment, but you gotta admit, the trickery is FUN because you're doing something to improve performance for far less than a tuner or chip costs.

Here's an update on MPG:

Stock 144.4 / 305.4 16.5 MPG
5.6K 135.6 / 285.5 MPG Not calculated (I think I grabbed the 4.7K instead of the 5.6K resistor so I'm disregarding this result until I run again with the new exhaust installed)
10K 159.3 / 341.5 MPG Not calculated
14.7K 166.0 / 351.2 MPG Not calculated
15.6K 199.8 / 372.3 18.10 MPG <====
20.3K 155.0 / 329.1 MPG Not calculated

I now have the DiamondEye 3" downpipe and 4" exhaust with muffler installed. Kept the cat for now. Shop wouldn't remove the cat due to legal / EPA reasons.

Next "Dyno Day" event is scheduled for November. I'm gonna try and make it. If any of you want to attend, PM me and I'll send you the info. If several are interested, I can post a separate thread with event info and directions.
