So I want to look into the possibility of swapping out my TTB axle from my 93 f-250 7.3L IDI for a straight axle.
I'm basically going to build up the axle until I'm ready to swap it out...if I do.
My questions here are:
1. Will I have issues with the leaf springs and shackles?
2. Will I have any issue with steering components? (i.e. will anything need to be changed to make sure it works?)
3. Will there be an issue with the driveshaft being too short or too long?
4. Is there any reason why this swap might be a bad idea?
Answers to your questions based on my opinions/memory
1) leaf springs and shackles should work. You need to get a d60 straight axle from a 86-97 F350 4x4 so that it lines up with your leafs. the leafs set on the housing of these axles so it's rather painstaking to move the leaf mounts
2)I think your stock steering components will work off the 4x4. I know my 96 F350 2wd has diff components than the 4x4 trucks, but i think you will be ok(not 100% sure tho)
I just did this swap and it was pretty easy...I used the steering components and springs from a F350, the drag-link is bent to compensate for the taller ride height in the 350 ...everything else should be the same...I ran my tbb 50 driveshaft for a while without any problems but you should check yours before using it, I'm going to switch back to the c/v driveshaft ( originally on donor truck I took axle from) once I get it rebuilt
