I have a three year old shepard/pitbull mix. (guessing.) I live at 6,400 ft elevation with no fleas or ticks. Every time I take him down to the bay area (sea level,) and let him play with other dogs, he comes back itching like hell. The only thing that has relieved it is the vet gives him some sort of steroidal injection and it clears him up pretty quick. The doc suggested he might be allergic to something but we are not sure what. Only once did I find a couple of fleas. But the itching occurs with or without fleas.
Any ideas?
Oh, should mention, I did apply frontline before taking him down there a couple of times but it made no difference.
If he is allergic to fleas, all he needs is one bite to make his whole body itchy. You might never see a flea on him. I had a schnauzer that was like that.
my sh**-zu who is notoriuous for getting hot spots on her lower back, would bite and naw at spots till they bled....no fleas or mites etc.......
i found this "earth" shampoo at pet smart, all organic natural products in it, kelps, tea leaves, etc.....its a little expensive 14 bucks for a bottle. i bought it a month ago, and i swear to god on my life, not 1 case of her biting herself anymore since i started with this shmpoo.
and ive been through every oatmeal shampoo, hot spot shampoo, and everything thing else under the sun for this problem, none of them worked. i will use this product from here on out.
and my dog is known to have dry skin problems. this shampoo took care of everything

I read your post and wanted to know the name of the shampoo you bought my dog has the problem.
the bottle has flowers on it etc... a little hippie looking. its "earth" something i cant remember the whole name, i just went home for lunch and if i had read this before i left i would have the actual name for it.
i will update the post tonight with all the specs you need and name of shampoo.
