we got a pit dobberman mix and shes been the best dog ive ever had but now shes getin a little older (6 years old) it seems like at least 3-4 time a week she throws up in the middle of the nite(she stays in the house at nite to). the wife wants to put her down and i realy dont wana. she still gets around pretty good other then once and a while she'll limp cuzz she got run over by a semi and broke her hip when she was a pup surgery fixed it best it could. any way heres things ive done to try and help her out, tosssed the cat out, changed diet, no more table scrapes, let her drink some milk in the mornin. i was think of pepto bismal but not shure for a dog i know it works good on calves
what does the hack look like? if its yellowish, blobby, its bile, most likely from an empty stomach, the dog maybe digesting food pretty fast, and its an empty stomach thats causing her to throw up.
thats just it she seems to be threwin up what ever she ate, first is was what ever was leftover from dinner now looks like dog food. she eats like a horse and getin fat,but im shure thats just cuzz its winter and she dont spend much time out side. hmm mabe shes eatin to much
could be dogs will over eat and eat it fast as well, my dog threw up the other day, and it was dog food, and the food was whole like she didnt even chew it up
its a good thing in your case, if her appetite changed drastically combined with hacking id be worried, but since shes fatin up and im sure happy as well, maybe just make some changes in whats shes eating and how much
I can't tell you how many times people try everything under the sun and then come in to my clinic as a last resort and it ends up being something simple such as parasites. I have found wierd foreign objects in the stomach too, such as a golf ball or a sock.
Wizzard,
I'd get her in for a sonogram if you can.
IDK about your mix but Pits are notorious for both blockages and tumors.
She's getting "fat" but I had one that developed a #14 tumor that blocked his GI tract.
He kept putting on weight, and eating less, I couldn't figure it out.
take the dog to the vet, why is everyone always in a hurry to put a dog down when the slightest thing is wrong? like an animal is an old radio that doesn't work right or something. 6 years old is not old at all.
pits are notoriuos for tumors, i grew up with pits, my mom still owns them to this day. the one i had growing up would throw up every other day and did it for about 12 years. never knew why, we figure she just swallowed her food and never chewed it and it did not sit right. you could never get the dog to chew her food for some reason.
