Hey Congrats on the new car.
I've been very happy with my 04 jetta TDI 5 spd. Some goofy engineering but the parts havn't been expensive. . . (TDIPARTS.com) As for the efficiency. . . . mine had 145000 miles on her. . . stock factory clutch. Second set of wheel bearings(from hitting curbs in the snow) and one timing belt with water pump and all pulleys. My mileage had been at about 40 and slowely started going down. I have a list of things to do to it so here we go. I pulled off the muffler and deleted the cat. Loudest little turbo i have ever heard. Otherwise she sounds like a baby cummins till the wastegate kicks in. And with a turbo that small it doesn't take more than mild throttle at 2000 rpm for that to happen so you pretty much have to be p*ssy-footing it. I'm going to remove the EGR valve(which is sticking anyway) and do a little programing. That combined with sane driving and its a proven 50 plus mpg car. Pretty hard to beat all that plus its a finely crafted car. Nice interiors. . . great stereos, and superb handeling. Hope you enjoy it.
TIm

Brandon, my dad has not given me your phone# yet, I doubt he has even been on FTE today yet. If you see this post in the meantime and I have not gotten to call you yet, you can look in the forums on Fred's TDI Page. TDIClub.com. VW TDI Enthusiast Community. There is a lot of really good info there, so you might find what you need from there. I will be calling you as soon as my dad and I touch base.

Sorry Brandon. Not sure why, but I didn't get the message until a short while ago this morning. We've talked now, though, and you can call Benjamin for more details on the OBS Jetta's because he's much more aware of issues there than I am.

Hey Pete and Jr. I can't believe I missed this thread. Glad you are getting the oil burner. You seem like a good kid, well the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. I am like Mike with my son. I think that this nut came off in a storm. lol

EDIT: Jr I don't see a sig with 29 post. Wats up?

Congrats Are In Order

F250_JR,

Congrats on the new car. I have spoken (posted) to your Dad many times in the past but have not posted lately. He really went out of his way to help me with my first mod...the 6637 and COVER. Hope all is well with him and your family. WELCOME to FTE and be sure and tell your Dad that Ernie (MLCRI$I$ II) said "hello". Keep on posting. Real nice car! Best of luck with it.

Ernie.

Rick, he hit the mark right about the time he was getting ready to go to bed, and didn't take the time to buld his sig yet.

Hey Ernie. Thanks for the well-wishes... we're all doing fairly well. Just dealing with life as it comes, which has been fairly fast, furious, and hard-hitting lately, but we're all pulling together which has been great to experience.

Ouch, man I feel your pain, only I did it to dad's truck. I pulled around the other night in my own driveway and forgot I had moved the tool trailer several feet further north than what it usually is and scraped and scratched the left rear quarter panel of the bed. I just got a quote from one of the better body shops in the area and they want 1300 bucks repaint and repair the one bed side.
