The '04 and later TDI's (PD type engine-different fuel pump design) don't get quite as high as the previous '99-'03 TDI's. The seller claims 50+ in the autotrader add, but I think mid to high 40's highway is a little more realistic.
Hey Jr.... that Newbie nonsense just might negate my chaufferring you to TN on Friday to pick up your new baby doll!!

You're definitely right there, 40 mpg is nothing to squack at. In the '96 Chevy Suburban (old family vehicle) that has been my daily driver up to this point, I was getting a whopping 12.4, city driving

At least I don't feel bad I get 14 with my truck!!
Not as cold as me threatening to not fund the deal until his own cash becomes available in two weeks!
On the serious side, I gotta tell you guys what Benjamin did for me. He's eally a special kid (and I'm not talking "short bus" special, either).
Some of you might remember me talking about pushing in the rear quarter panel on my truck within a mointh of getting it... some stupid little black ricer tucked in beside me in the parking lot, well out of sight, and I turned into pulling out of my space one night. Anyway, ever since then, I've driven the truck with those ugly black plastic streaks left by that little smidgen of a car's bumper. I left them ther for two reasons... one was to encourage me to get the thing fixed and back to normal, and the second was as a perpetual reminder to be very very careful.
Anyway, Benjamin went outside Sunday afternoon, completely without my knowing anything about it, and he clay-barred the black streaky scuffs off teh side of the truck as a "thank you" for helping him with his car negotiations, and this was before we even knew the guy was going to accept his last counteroffer. Benjamin also clay-barred the yellow scuffs off the cab roof that were left by those ugly hanging signs in the airport parking garage! What a great guy! I'm not kidding when I tell you that it virtually brought tears of gratitude to my eyes when I found out what he did for me.
