If you think the trans is about to dump him. Nothing but a rebuild would do any good. I have the BTS-VB in mine and it helped alot, but my trans is still in good shape. (I hope)
EDIT: I just read your last post. Forget what I just said. lol
I drove the truck im not sure its the trans i think it might be the TC it just didn't want 2 move when u put it 2 her. Drained the pan an dropped it in side looked really clean...... Any ideas ????
My Friend just had his tranny replaced by a well known tranny guy around here that always has people waiting in line when they can go somewhere else. Anyway he said that the best thing that can be done for a tranny behind a 7.3L is with the insides out of a C6 tranny (like one found behind a 460). He can take the insides out of the C6 and put them in the housing and stick it behind a 7.3L. I would say this would work because stock C6's are used behind pulling trucks pushing 900hp.
Yeah I was just thinking to myself that I wouldn't have the money to throw at a BTS and I can find a C6 pretty easy around here for not a whole lot of money. I was just throwing the idea out there.
Just add the cost of material purchased and the install time. Betcha come really darn close to a BTS or JW. $4100 for a BTS. That is what I was thinking, piece here and piece there. Well, prices matched pretty quick.
I will have to ask how much he wanted to switch all that out if I had a tranny and I'll get back on here. My buddy had the next best thing to doing that with the stock tranny - upgraded shift kit and torque converter - that I know of - he kinda likes to keep things hid from me incase we meet on the road - and his added up to 1200 - I didn't think that was bad at all.
I wonder how you came to that conclusion? Nowhere in this thread has anyone described any symptoms of what's wrong.
Also, there are no OD bands in any transmission used with a Ford diesel. So it's highly unlikely that the problem, whatever it is, could be the OD bands.
Sun Coast offers some pretty good rebuild kits that have all the parts necessary to build a stout transmission. If I were to do mine again, I would look to upgrade the coast clutch drum and pack. I did do an Alto Red Eagle increased clutch count on all the forward clutch packs. After rebuilding mine, I found some pretty good info on other upgrades, I would do, next time around. Hopefully this will be a long tome from now. (Knock on wood) You can make it as bullet proof as your pocket book will let you. I spent about $2600 total (including billet triple disc TC & synthetic fluid). That would have been a few hundred less if I hadn't had to upgrade from the "mechanical diode". I like the satisfaction of doing the job myself. I feel more confident in my abilities since this undertaking.
