Shift from 1st to 2nd hard
Just got an '01 250 that revs hi when I start out...doesn't shift to 2nd unless I back off the throttle.
I took the VSS out and cleaned it...didn't help. Engine and trans were replaced reman, 20,000 mi ago (guy gave me the reciepts).
I have not looked at any codes yet...got it fairly cheap tho'.
Has anyone had this condition before?

Tbirds had a common problem with the 1-2 shift accumulator spring breaking which caused a hard shift into second.
My truck had the kinda same problem which was the rear speed sensor. Speedo wouldn't register till like 20-25 and would slam into second. ABS light was also on full time.

That's the symptom of a failed mechanical diode. But this already has a reman, and anyone that is rebuilding transmissions should have known to replace the mechanical diode. Maybe they didn't....

Mine did the exact same, had to have trans replaced. It didnt shift unless I let off gas. It was the diode problem. It will shift but when it does, it skips second gear and bangs into third. I hope they rebuilt that tranny with the right diode, but that problem sounds all to similar to mine.

It takes a complete rebuild, and also changing many of the hard parts. I don't have a good handle on costs, but it isn't going to be cheap.

A man pulled up next to a little girl walking home from school and said "If you get in, I'll give you a lollypop." The girl kept walking. Following along slowly, the man said "Come on and get in the car with me and I'll give you two lolly pops." She kept her eyes on the sidewalk and continued on her way. The man said "Get in with me and I'll give you this whole bag of lollypops!" Finally, the girl turned and said "Look daddy, YOU bought the Ford, YOU ride in it!!!"

Thanks Mark...I bought the truck cheap..$3500 with new engine,body very good...using it for farm stuff.I like it so far.
At work,they have a 2000 2WD 250...on the road work,towing trailers,beaten by the hired men driving....173,500 mi and no major problems.
I was leaning towards a used Chevy till I found this one.
