If I don't have the diode,then what else can cause this sams problem?

It could be a bad sprag one way clutch. It could be a sticking shift valve, or a worn out intermediate clutch.

Will the trouble codes most likely tell which problem it is?

I'm taking it in this week to have them checked.

And if I rebuild the trans,are there special kits that would be better for hauling up to 5 tons of corn ,towing a wagon?

The codes will be a good starting point to diagnose what's wrong. They rarely tell exectly what's wrong.
