I have noticed lately the smell of antifreeze when I use the heater or defrost. The truck is a 98' F-150 with over 220,000 miles on it. I do not see any signs of leaks, the radiator is not low. I have a pretty good feeling its the heater core. Can anyone tell me how too get to it to replace it. The truck has A/C also. any help would be appreciated.
Bad news......there is no "easy" way to access the heater core. The entire dash needs to come out, although I've heard you can loosen the dash and prop it out of the way just enough to have enough room.
Yes, you can loosen the dash and move it (that's how I did it), but I was fighting it all the way. If you have the space...take the seats out of the truck. You will want that extra room when you are under the dash looking for screws...
Thank you very much, that is detailed info that will come in handy.
Wish me luck, I need the truck to go too camp this week end. By the way, is there a way to bypass the heater core with that type of hose connectors? If I can't get it done maybe I can do that before this weekend. Well thanks again, I really appreciate it.
