I got to do the same, change out the rear more so now, i,m getting some new sneakers for my ride and i did a burnout and one wheel only spinned(right rear). I guess its time for me also to change out the diff-fluid.? Sorry for the hijack.
I changed my fluid to valvoline Durablend and used just enough friction modifier to stop chatter in turns and the clutch packs grab much better now... I have just turned 220,000 the other day
Change the fluid then taker her for a test drive. If she chatters or gives you issues you can add a couple of oz at a time of the friction modifier. Some synthetic fluids do not require the friction modifier but occassionally they need it also (like 1 in 200). If you think you are having issues you can send in an oil analysis of the fluid.
Mike, if we hook up in June I will grab a sample of your rear diff and send it into the lab to see how she is holding up.
Not sure what you are waiting for that has not been said. If the diff is fine, then consider it PM. If it isn't it may help. I will say that my fluid was pretty crappy looking but exhibited no symptoms. Just remember the diff is like the tranny with slipping clutches etc that give off residue that was suspended in my old fluid. Having said that, you could run the stock unit to well over 500k and not have a problem. Up to you.
I changed mine About 10K after i got the truck. used 5 bottles of mobil 75W1?? (i think 140) full synthetic. Also sanded the pan down and brake cleaned the hell outta it. Put about 12 layers of high heat paint with one layer of a tough enamel on the outside. Used black with orange high heat RTV. Looks pretty cool. get alot of comments on the oozing orange RTV lol So far- so good. I didnt use any friction modifier per the guy at ford looked up VIN and said i dont need any. (no locker or somthing?)
