Changed the oil and started the truck - trans gauge was stuck on 190deg. Holy crap! Shut off the engine, got underneath and pointed my infrared temp sensor around the sensor and pan - highest I got was 105deg. Weird. Started the truck again, this time 130deg on gauge, went for a drive - it hopped all over the place but stayed put on 130 when I wasn't moving.
Then I got underneath and pressed the connector tighter, jiggled the wires around - no more needle hopping around. I sure hope the sensor isn't going bad. Maybe I accidentally moved something while I was under there changing the oil...
I'd double check the wiring, make sure there is no corrosion. If you have a good solid connections then it is probably the gauge. But it should only take a few seconds. You could also run a second wire just to see if the wire itself is the issue. I haven't heard of any probe going bad yet. Sure is a probability but not a common item to fail.
My ISSPRO tranny temp goes bonkers once in a while. I removed the connection at the sensor & clean off the contacts with some penetrating oil & blew it out, after that it goes back to normal. After doing this 3 times - I cleaned off the contacts real good then shrink wrapped it about a year ago.
For me it was just dirty contacts - it might be the same for you.

I have an ISSPRO as well. I think I'll go clean the contacts and use some dielectric grease (now why didn't I think of that before...)
Yes, the electrical connection sounds like the problem here. Please let me know if that did not solve the problem (you can PM me or email me at michael at isspro dot com).
