Cool Engine locked up.

Well I went and got some soder to fixe some wiring then parked my truck for 3 hours while waiting for it to cool and then fixing the wiring.

when i went to start it the starter engaged tryed to turn then stoped. So I pulled the cover of the torque converter and spun it over by the fly wheel it had no noticeable extra efort but I heard what sounded like fluid trickeling in to the exahust. then tryed to start it.

It started right up and ran fine no smoke. truck doesn't smoke while driving either. So what is going on?

As far as i can figure I might have a injector leaking down. Could this cause this? I have replaced them about 4 months ago with brand new ones, because #1 injector was leaking so bad it put so much fule in my oil that I lost oil presure at idle, and it never did this. If it were cavitation i should have seen water come out the tail pipe plus it should blow white smoke.

Check the oil for both over full and coolant contamination.

There is about 2.5 cu. in. volume left in the cylinder with the piston at TDC in round numbers.

So all it takes to hydrolock the engine is a little over 2 cubic inches of fluid.

Well it did it again this morning but it started with the starter wich caused the gunk to shoot ou the exaust It did not smell like coolant or fule felt like water and evaporated too fast to be coolant.

The only thing I can think of is one of my new injectors are leaking and the carbon in the exaust is covering the semel. Dose this sound possible? my room mate was a chevy diesel mechanic back when they had the 5.7 and 5.2 and said that thats probly whats going on.

I would like a second opinion befor I write a nasty letter to the company I bought them from.

I replaced all 8 when one was bad because I didn't want to have to deal with this for a while.

oh also when it does this it misses on start up like when you have just had an injector line off. also my return lines have started to leak fairly badly this couldn't cause fule to leak past the pintle could it? The pintle should still seal right?

It runs fine once it runs for a few seconds.

It sounds like its doing it pretty consistently on cold startup. What I would try is to pull all the glow plugs the next morning and than crank if over. The stuff that is in there should shoot out, and you can dentify what the fluid is and the cylinder that is doing this.

If it is indeed fuel, than I'd say it would be time to write that letter at that point.

Dang, sounds like lousy timing for this to happen now. At the very least, I would turn it over by hand before attempting to start it cold in the morning to prevent any potential damage.

When you do have the time, you could pop the injectors out instead. Even just loosening them a bit should provide a path of escape for the fluid. Do what you can, but don't put it off for too long if you are still running it.

Well this afternoon I had to drive it to the store didn't think about it started fine and didn't shoot anythink out and it had been sitting as long as it had been the first time.

Maybe there was just some crud in the pintle that the diesel clean got out. will se in the morning since whan i turn it over by hand I can hear it tricling into the crossover.

The return lines should not be putting diesel into the cylinder.

And I would have a hard time believing you could get enough fuel to leak out of an injector to actually hydrolock the engine.

I could see leaking out enough fuel that the compression ratio would be very high in that cylinder though, which would make it a lot harder to compress that cylinder.

You are probably hearing it trickle into the oil pan, the exhaust valve should be closed on the compression stroke.

yeah it probly isn't hydrolocked but the starter couldn't crank it the first time it hapend and the second time it pussed it out the exaust made a awful mess.

If it were coolant i would be getting white smoke so the only thing it could be is fule, right? I could definately tell it was not oil.

Just a note, the exact same thing was happening to me. Turned out the pos wire on the starter coming from the batt was loose.

I'd check both engine grounds, and batt wires for loose/corroded connections first.

That wouldn't cause stuff to spew out the exaust though.
