running problems.
Also i have a weird cooling system problem. What is the proper way to airate the cooling system? i check all my lines and they all have coolant in them i crack the valve ontop of the manifold it has water the radiators full but when ever i get the engine to operating temp. or around 180 the radiator starts flexing and (belching) everyone seems to think its normal untill they see it. its almost enough to bust the coolant resevoir. also i cant seem to get any hot coolant through the heater core lines. and have two odd coolant lines coming out of the sides of the block that go to a t and then a small box on the tranny another line comes of the box and goes to the water pump. no one i talk to even has a clue as to what this is. any ideas?

First warm the engine by taking a run to the store and get a 6-pack of your favorite beverage. Then hook up a tach to the engine. Lower the idle speed to the slowest RPM it will sustain an idle at.
Now turn one of the mixture screws clockwise until the engine stumblest (count the # of turns just in case), then reverse the rotation to obtain the highest RPM possible. Lower the idle speed again and repeat for the other side. Do all of this with the choke off, and the air cleaner on.

[b]I cannot visualize your hose configuration, but the radiator cap need to go and replace with a new one. Purging the air out of your system is simple. Drain the coolant and flush the system with Prestone or the like and refill according to the instructions. Once the rad. is full, run the truck with the cap off and the heater on. Watch the radiator opening. When the thermostat opens, your coolant level should drop and you should see it circulating. Top it off while its running. Do not overfill. The coolant level should only be about an inch above the core. Your cap doesn't seem to be venting that's why your radiator is swelling and will start leaking soon. The heater core is simple to check for a valve on the passenger side fender apron. If it's closed or broken you will need to replace it. Otherwise, remove the heater hoses and try flushing the core by itself. It may be clogged.

First of all- let's get back to basics
If your truck is blowing white smoke, you may have an internal coolant leak. A rich fuel mixture won't be white. No amount of carb fiddling will help any. If you are experiencing belching from your cooling system at the same time- again, I would have to say you have an internal coolant leak. Maybe as minor as a gasket or block or head could be cracked.
As for that box on the tranny, believe it or not, that used to be a primitive type of transmission cooler that used coolant from your cooling system if I remember correctly. I've only seen them on automatics.
Just something to think about
