what year is it? can you get the casting numbers off the driver side bellhousing flange?
no matter what it is it will be a TALL deck motor.
99% were 366cuin
366 3.937 bore x 3.76 stroke
427 4.25 bore x 3.76 stroke
454 4.25 bore x 4.00 stroke
All physically look the same, but by checking the stroke you could eliminate the 454
When they left the factory there was an identification plate somewhere inside the cab (different years in different places) that gave the engine code but by now the engine could be replaced.
A few years ago a guy had me put a 366 into his 78 3/4 ton chebby 4X4. He happened to have one and wanted to make use of it. Tall deck not an issue, had to change something on the dist and upper water outlet but I can't remember what. Bottom line - you can use them in a pickup, but I don't know why you'd want to.
in our 2 grain trucks we have a 366 in each of them....one is a screaming motor....the other is a pootch (of course its a tandem missing 1st gear)...... we also have a 427 we pulled out of a semi we bought several years ago.
