My point was Diesel fuel is expensive. we also have travel plans for the year. Did a projected budget back around the first of the year when Diesel fuel was 3.359. Added in 20% for inflation that would put diesel at 4.02..it is 4.45 to 4.69 today. The high cost of energy has pushed up the price of everything.. The remaining dollars for our travel are still there..they will not take us as far.Fuel is expensive and the high cost of energy is affecting many people..It is good that there are many folks on this forum who are not affected.

I agree are dollar was at one time worth a dollar now its 5 dollars.....and it hurts....some one used the housing theory and the housing prices came down but i am still paying the high taxes for the older housing market prices.......everything is going up except my pay check.

hi this is will thanks for the response and i agree with most of you,my problem is basically the depreciation of my truck its a 350 dwr kr 4.30 with ever thing in it and i get 11-11.5 mpg/ I got it so i could get a 5th wheeler for recreational fun not a daily driver i have a 06 civic and a 08 escape . The sales guy offered 32,000/i paid 63,000 and some change in feb 07. he said the reason was that they aren't selling and they don't wont sit on them....dont get me wrong i love my truck i just cant pay 4 to 5 dollars a gallon for any fuel and the price of everything else going up it hurts

Out of curiosity how much do you think a dealer would have allowed on this truck as a trade in on a car if fuel was still what it was in Feb 07? My experiance has been that you will take a beating when wanting to trade down with a dealer especially in the first few years. No dealer has ever really wanted your late model trade in unless you are trading up in value and even then it just looks better on paper.
Yes, add in the fact that its tough when you try to trade a slow seller for a hot seller and we can moan all day about diesel prices but to keep things in perspective would it make any meaningful differance if this truck had a gas engine at this time?

I went to a dealership today to sell my truck I cant afford the diesel and my daughter needs a car so i tried to trade it and they offered me 32,000 on my truck i bought in 2/07 for 65,000. Been a great truck ,the sales guy said they cant sell them because the diesel prices....so im stuck with it.
Taxable value, according to this state, is now $17k

I would hope 40,000 I put 15,000 down and owe 41,000 I know that some of that went to the taxes and licensing......I knew I would lose some money, but the dealership offered 32,000 ...they were trying to sell a f250 diesel 2wd just a plain jane for 35,000 ..all im saying is the fuel prices are hurting us in more ways then one ......I know life will go on, but it still hurts..at least for me! Dont get me wrong I love my truck and would hate to let it go.......

know thats what im talking about...............just fuel up 4.56 almost empty cost me a $150.00 ...ouch!

I called and talked to my dealer a couple months ago and asked about trade in. They offered 39k for the truck I payed them 48k for. Not bad for a year old truck with 18k on it. My F450 is scheduled to be at the dealer in a few weeks.

still a lost for me but i would live with that.....but i bought my for 63,000 and was offered 32,0000........just saw an ad on tv feed the childen and they where asking for donations not for food but for fuel for their trucks.............the ad had people pushing the truck........

You can afford 63K for a new truck, but a $150 fill-up is bothering you?
And you knew this wasn't going to be a gas miser when you bought it?
Your resale might be worth up to 10k more, but the price of fuel has really reduced the prices on the big diesel SUV's and trucks.
In my neck of the woods sales lots are full of these vehicles that nobody wants. And many have price reductions of 10-15K! Even 10K off the new ones!
The problem is this.
Everyone that wanted a diesel truck bought one. And the manufacturers were glad to oblige. And they made millions of them.
Now, with the price of fuel, only those that need a big truck are buying them. And this leaves many sitting on the lot, new and used.
The people that didn't need a big truck will go back to driving a car.

Its nothing new really, over the years "sheet metal lust" has induced many an individual to buy more than they really had to have to get by. Then for any number of reasons "buyers remorse" sets in and they discover they are "upside down" with what the vehicles worth and what they owe on it.
Hopefully things will turn around and thankfully we live in a society that allows us, if we choose, to buy more than we really need if we want to.

I will never own another gasser to use around the farm and tow with, I switched to diesel in 1995. The price of diesel fuel has slowly crept past gas.
My 03 is paid for and last summer I considered an 08. I do believe I would be in the same position as the original poster. A new vehicle depreciates when the front tire contacts the street pavement.
Higher fuel prices combined with Ford's new sales incentives, I would not be a happy person at this moment. Gold is trading at $900 plus the last time I checked, that is my indicator of how week the dollar is.

Ok Im one of those guys who doesnt need this kind of truck I wont this truck ,but my ideal was if I was going to spend money on a truck I was going to buy the best of the best and this was it for me I put 15,0000 down to help with the depreciation.....and paying 150 every three days isnt helping my budget...3.00 I didnt like but I lived with hoping it would go down but at 4.59 a galllon and going up its killing me.Thats great for all you guys that need your trucks and can put the cost on the consumer.....but to me the truck was designed for many different uses and mine is for recreational .......and if the truck keeps depreciating I will not be able to get the new and improved sd and if everything else keep going up my family and i will be living in it ................. just trying to live the american dream... work hard play hard..........

I'm still throwing up over the thought of paying $65k for a truc. Just think about how much money that is for a minute..... 65 THOUSAND dollars. sheesh I thought $36 was bad for mine....and that was $9k off sticker!!!
