Computer/Laptop Experts...

Two questions for the computer experts.

1)I have a year old Gateway laptop with two 512mb DDR2 PC-5300 ram chips. I have heard if I want to upgrade, I need to buy the memory in pairs of the same size. Is this true for this type of ram?

2) Same laptop, are after market chargers and batteries safe? The cost of an Gateway power supply is 2-5X what I can get one ebay for, but I don't want to fry my laptop. Thanks in advance!

You might want to check out the system specs on the gateway site.. It will tell you if you need to have it in pairs.. Many of the older systems required it, but a year old system you may be able to get away with it..

I personally use either a single chip or matched pairs, but have used different ones when needed..

If the PC accepts it when installed it should be fine..

As far as the battery and charge they are all basically the same.. You need to make sure the voltage and amp ratings are the same..

My 2 cents

Try here for battery and charger:

Gateway Laptop Hard Drive, Gateway Notebook Hard Drive Sales and Data Recovery Service

I've used these folks several times.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to get a different stick of ram but if it is a slower speed then your current then thats what the new speed of you ram will be. The ram speed is always determined by the lowest speed stick.
