I am new to this forum. I just bought a 1990 F-250 4x2 7.3. I paid $500 so, you can say it needs a "little" work. The first problem I know I am having is that the breaks are really hard to push in and they don't start stoping the truck until the ped hits the floor. Any thoughts... Also if you have to use starting fluid to start the truck, would that be a problems with the glow plugs???
AFAIRFORD,
Welcome to FTE! Best place to meet some good folks and learn about your truck.
Drop down to the 7.3 forum and someone will be more than willing to help answer any questions you have about your 7.3
Brakes could be a bad hydroboost, bad master cylinder, stuck caliper pistons, bent line ... off the top of my head.
Starting fluid use could signal poor cylinder sealing (low compression) or bad/inoperative glow plugs. Starting fluid used once or twice isn't necessarily "the killer of engines and glow plugs" but it shouldn't be used on a regular basis. Then you will end up having problems.
I think I need to do a break job on the truck. I went under and looked and it looks like the cal is pushed all the way out. I haven't checked the backs yet, but if I'm going to use the truck for pulling a 5th wheel I'm not going to mess around with the breaks. I bought some glow plugs last night, plan on puting them in tonight. Thanks to everyone so far for your replies. Seems like a great forum. It will be fun to get to know everyone.
