Tranny fluid specs.

I am going to order the true cooler 4739 max and I also want to change fluids and the filter. Where is the best place ( price ) for the tranny filter plus whats the best tranny fluid to run that wont brake me? I would also like synthetics so if I don't get all the old out will it hurt any? Should I also change the transfer case fluid, and with what fluids? Want to do this to help drop fluid temps as much as possable. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have the true cooler 4739 and did you spend the extra for the mounting for the 99-03, or don't you need it? Thanks again..

I've got a TruCool on my truck, but I can't tell you the model number (I don't remember). I just took out the grill on the truck, mounted it, and reinstalled grill...no extra mounting kit was needed.

Hang on a sec, I'm digging up the threads for you.

The transfer case should hold about 2 quarts:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/492629-how-much-atf-in-the-transfer-case.html

Here are instructions for the fluid change and quantities:
4R100 Transmission Flush

I am using Valvoline Synthetic Mercon V from Oreilly's this weekend on mine....its about 3.99 / qt. Others here are using the same.

Oh yeah.....the Tru-Cool. I just installed mine a few weeks ago, got it from DieselSite. Yes, I got the 99- 03 kit, and it was helpful. Worth the $10 or whatever it was. Note: Tighten the connectors (hose to cooler and hose to hose) [I]tightly[I] or you will end up with a leak.

I hope that helps-

BTS uses Schaeffer's synthetic transmissiion fluid in all there transmissions.

Schaeffer's ALL-Trans Supreme Transmission Fluid

Takes about 18 quarts but get 20 so you don't run short.

Jeremy - I installed the Tru-Cool a while back & did get the install kit -Basically a few brackets and some bolts- Probably worth it just to save a few trips to the hardware store. Dropped my trans temps a lot especially while towing. Good Luck

Thanks for the help. I was seaching around and found some info on this topic. I wont use Shaeffer's, don't have the extra doah laying around for that. Just fresher fluids is all I need.

If I only change the filter and add what ATF came out will Synthetic mix with regular ATF?

And thanks for the info and avice on the trucool and making sure its all tight. I hope it comes with good directions.

OH YEAH and is there a way to flush the stock tranns cooler before adding the trucooler?

Save the $ on the filter- according to Mark Kovalsky (FTE trans guru- built Ford trans for 20 years or so) if the filter is bad enough to need changed you may as well throw the tranny out with it because it's toast too.

Actually I engineered Ford transmissions, I didn't build them.

You're right about the filter.

Synthetic and dino ATF will mix fine, but why would you want to? Use the procedure in the articls section to change all of the fluid. If it's too expensive for 20 quarts of synthetic fluid I'd recommend changing all of the fluid with dino than changing only part of the fluid with synthetic.

Mark!
What is better(in normal conditions):
1) to use Mobil-1 and change fluid every 100000 miles (partly, 10 Quarts)
2) to use cheap Motorcraft Mercon-V and change fluid every 50000 miles (partly, 10 Quarts) ?

I don't think either plan is very good.

Take your pick, I don't see either as better. They're both bad.
