Road draft to PCV conversion?

Anyone know where I can get a PCV conversion? I want to eliminate the road draft tube and go to a PCV.

I already tried finding it on this message board's sponsor's site but no luck,

Thanks,

Greg

Road draft to PCV conversion?

The Y-block series of atricles in Classic Trucks magazine showed the setup from the later models ( 63/64 ? ). The PCV valve goes in the valley cover at the back. I'm not sure what you do with the breather in the side of the block. If you could just locate one of the last years to examine it would help.

This issue in reference is November 2001 volume 10 number 11 pages 58-69. Although the year of engine was not noted, the author demopnstrates on an engine with the road draft tube mounted on the valley cover. He removed the welded tab on the inside of the pan, scrounged the parts house for a grommet/PCV valve combo that fits and hooks it to a port on the carb. He recommends leaving the oil filler tube capped with the filtered cap.

Road draft to PCV conversion?

Someone recommended Concours Parts. It turns out that they are a t-bird parts dealer. The rep made it sound like their kits would only fit the stock carb. I'm wondering if the valley pan grammet and PCV could be adapted to the Edelbrock.

Anyone have any previous experience with this idea?

As always,

Thanks,

Greg

The 63/64 trucks had a PCV that connected to a vacuum port on the intake manifold and to the valley pan at the back. I know because I have one. If you can find the can shaped fitting that attaches to the valley pan it is easy to hook up. It provides a 1/2 inch hose conection. I looked thru PCV valve listings at my local parts store and found the number for a PCV valve for a 292 Ford. It has a 3/8 inch hose conection on the manifold side and a 1/2 inch hose conection on the other end. The original PCV valve on the trucks screwed into a fitting on the intake.

I am using an earlier 3x2 aluminum intake and had to modify the can shaped fitting that attaches to the valley pan to clear the intake. Early Y blocks did not have any hole at the back of the valley pan. The road draft tube was located on the drivers side of the block. Then it was moved to the valley pan and finally eliminated with the PCV valve. If you can find one of the later valley pans it will have the necessary hole at the back with a baffle underneath. Or you can go the custom route and buy a finned aluminum valley pan and drill it for a valve cover type PCV grommet.

Road draft to PCV conversion?

I finally figured it out. I called "The Thunderbird Center". For $59 they have a kit that replaces the Road Draft Tube and the spacer between the stock intake and the Edelbrock. While its not in my hands, the description sounds to be esxactly what I needed:

1. Fits in the existing Valley pan hole where the road draft tube comes out
2. comes with the preformed Rubber hosing
3. Has a clean interface into the Intake.

Color this one "Finished"

Thanks to all for your help.

See pictures of my PCV setup in my picture gallery. A few closeup pics. Used an original 1964 valley pan with PCV hose connector modified to fit behind a 3x2 Weiand manifold.

Click on avatar of carb/intake to left and select 292 rebuild gallery.. Finally completed the engine with finned aluminum aircleaner over 3 deuce carbs with progressive linkage.

You should be in the flat head forum, just below this one, or an older truck forum from the flathead era, like so:

Google turns up more on the subject.
