Road Draft to PCV conversion - 292

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Nov-02 AT 10:06 AM (EST)]Anyone know where I can get a PCV conversion? I want to eliminate the road draft tube and go to a PCV.

I tried looking on this message board's Sponsor's site but no luck.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg, I did this on my flathead by going to CarQuest and buying a 1 3/4" rubber/neoprene/? plug with a hole molded for a pcv and a 90* valve with a length of 3/8 hose. Mine was easy because of the fitting already in place on my intake manifold. Hook it to manifold vacuum. Route the hose where you want to. The 90* pcv allows the hose to lay flat along the intake manifold - out of the way and unseen.

They (CQ) had a variety of plugs in stock so find what size you need to duplicate your road draft tube diameter. The pcv should match the cubes of your engine.

I've run mine for 2 years this way and haven't had any problems. I imagine your 292 would be similar.

One thing I have discovered when adding a PCV valve to a set-up that didn't have it, is sometimes it will make the engine run rough. The PCV system introduces air/fumes/condensate that will be burned by the engine. Sometimes when I used a fitting on the manifold, it favored one or two runners or cylinders in the engine, making them run lean. If you look on all the factory PCV set-ups, they introduce the PCV at the base of the carb, where it will be distributed to all cylinders. Of course this is not as easy as just hooking it to the manifold. So you might try the easy way first, and then you might have to get a carb spacer or something if it doesn't work out.

Good point franklin - maybe an option would be an adapter to raise the carb up an inch and drill and tap for a barbed fitting and hook the hose to that. The flathead intake has a raised pedestal where the carb sits and thats where I'm connected. It accomplishes the same thing.

Just as a thought, the comp of as well as the amount of the blow-by gases will have a lot to do about how the engine will run.

Most of these gases are not near flamable as gas and will act on your Air/Fuel mixture by diluting it. Therefore the rough running.

I would consider keeping the road draft tube unless the law requires you to change.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I noticed that the sports bikes today have electric motors that suck the gas out instead of a vacumm source, and the things are very tiny. Due to the adverage life span of one of these bikes being 28 days they should be very plentiful. This may be another option you can look into.
