If its 2wd, than you could swap to gears that are better for MPG for relatively low cost. $250 USD gets you the parts for it if you can put the gears in yourself. If you think 4.10s suck, think what it would be like if you couldn't shift into 4th gear, that was my truck stock (3 speed auto). The 3.08s were the first mod I did on my truck.
Being 2wd, you can also go with 3.08s if you want, or more civilized 3.54 gears. If you don't need to tow trailers weighing 5000lbs (or more) consistently, than I wouldn't be afraid to go with 3.08s.
