Lifter problem
I am having a lifter problem. It started as a tapping noise in the top end. I figured it was due to this truck sitting for a bit before I bought it a month ago. Well the noise would come and go as I drove, but seemed to get better as time went on. Well now it seems to be collasped. The motor now has a slight miss or shake to it and I tried the dollar thing at the tailpipe and it tries to suck it in. What do you guys think should be the next step. I want to build a motor next year, I really didnt want to tear into this thing big time. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't start by blaming a lifter, try to find out which cyclinder is making the noise first and pull the valve cover off to check for a bent push rod, loose rocker or a bad valve spring, if it is a lifter you can always just change it along with any related parts without tearing the engine down but the first thing is to find out what's causing the problem.
