Um.... 6oh's, VGT Smoke Switch???
Hey guys, just found this video on Youtube and just thought I'd share it with you....
YouTube - Ford F-250 Powerstroke Diesel Smoke truck
the "smoke switch" basically changes the geometry of the VGT and makes ZERO BOOST. Thats why the truck is making all that smoke, because there is no power!!! Did i miss something in powerstroke 101 or isn't the idea of mods to make the trucks quicker and more reliable? Not to mention that his turbo is probably scrap by now.... Ok sorry I'm done... just some people...

i patended first so its MINE!!!!!!
as for the vgt trick..... its nothing new, we could do the same thing with the ford scan tool, i can take full control away from the pcm and command the vgt to my desired positions while driving. i t wont hurt the turbo to do what they are doing with it, all it is doing is commanding the vanes full open. you are not shutting the turbo off, just going to a "large" housing. i dont remember what the equivilant is on wide open but doing what they are doing is like switching from a .89 housing to a 1.15 housing.
the only way to hurt the turbo/engine is to command the vgt the other way(closed) by doing this the vanes essentially shirnk the interior of the turbo housing causing less volume to be filled and consequently more boost. if you command it full closed and rev it up in neutral you can hit 25-30 psi without ever moving the truck........

awww dang it Joe! I was all high on my horse till you said that!!! Lol. I guess to me just seams that if you're blowing smoke, should be from power. Not making the turbine (exhaust) side of the turbo bigger (by means of VGT, which is actually kinda cool). oh well. Just disregard this thread then. Just on a 6oh knocking day I guess

Rog, It's just on the 6.0 turbo's that have VGT (variable geometry turbos) they can adjust the "size" of the exhaust side of the turbo. Smaller hole= more boost and faster spool off the line. Then it opens up as the exhaust flow increases. That answer your question? Here's a little more information Variable geometry turbocharger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
