For mine it was a $110 fix for the dealer (parts and labor) - it was there for something else and he offered to do it. I hadn't gotten to it so I had it done. It was not a sticky carriage as I had suspected, it was a broken retrun spring.
Hi guys, got referred to this thread from mine. My 98 won't go all the way over to park. My daughter has it down in Texas now but when she gets back this weekend I'll look up under the dash to check things out. It just acts like something is jammed keeping it from moving that last little bit to park. It runs up and down through the gears all right down below park.
My question is if I take a can of silicone spray lube with a 6" tube on the nozzle, can I point it up in there and spray and try to lube the slide and would that maybe work or would I end up filling up the inside of the instrument cluster with the oily spray? Thanks.

I have an '01 and when mine went out, I had to lay down on the floor and look up under the dash. Look around the steering column, you are looking for a small white square piece of plastic that has a black turning wheel and a small orange cable running through it. I think it was easiest to do this witht the engine off and the car in 1st gear. On mine, the small white plastic had a broken area. I unhooked the cable and then unscrewed the white bracket. A little super glue and about 10 minutes and you should be good to go. Re install and hook it all back up.
