Gear shift selector not lining up properly

Gear shift selector not lining up properly
99 Explorer Sport 4x4 SOHC Auto 82K. This truck is now starting to become maintenance intensive. Might to time to trade in. Oh well...anyway.
I took a short drive today (20 miles) and when I parked, the gear selector now does not line up with its selected gear. For example, P now shows as between P and R. D lines up with 2. N lines up with...blah blah ad nausem. Basically the orange indicator is one spot to the right of where it SHOULD be. This just happened during this drive?
What should I be looking for? Usual fix?

on most fords the gear shift indicator is usually operated by a cable that is attached to the steering column under the dash and is adjustable. Try looking under the dash for the cable and adjust it as necessary.

Thanks for the reply! It turns out that the adjustment wheel bracket is broken and its a real PITA to replace. I might have to have a dealer take care of it. Fortunately it doesnt affect the drivability.
