Automatic linkage "adjustment"

The PO put a C6 in my '68 Highboy and never bothered to get the linkage right. We put on a Lokar shift linkage at the tranny and set it at max travel, but with an indicator on the steering column Park is in the right place but drive is at the "N" and first is about at "D".

Any tricks on modifying the linkage so get the shift arm travel to match the indicator?

Loosen the linkage....manually put the trans in neutral,put the gearshift in neutral...tighten the linkage.

That will put Park at about R and low bewteen 1st and second. My problem is that the total amount of travel at the steering column is about 70% of what it should be.
