The '97 is a powerstroke.
Welcome Larry. I assume you want to check the level of oil in the HPOP reservoir?
To do this there is an allen plug on the top of the reservoir towards the drivers side. It may be pretty stuck if it has not been removed in awhile. If you can use an allen socket on a ratchet. It is an o-ring fitting. The level should be within 1/2" I believe from the top.

Yes it shouldn'be too hard. I have not done that yet. The dealer sells the gasket required. I think some use 2 gaskets (not sure). They are o-ring style. Is it leaking down the front or back?
