They WILL hold back HP vs a straight through muffler, been proven over and over again.
What he said.
Flowmasters don't help like everyone thinks they do.
Just look at the cut outs, you think all those fancy boxes and designes in side the muffler will allow better flow than a straight flow through muffler like a glass pack?
I have glass packs on my 77 and 79, and they sound great.
in Texas I heard that it is illegal to run straight through mufflers unless you make them by yourself....in other words that you can't go buy them from a store. IDK if it is true or not
It is probably illegal to run straight pipes.
In Louisiana as long as you are running mufflers(glass packs are mufflers) (and cats if your truck is a catalist), you're legal.
I think there is some federal law (we may have discussed this on this section of the forum at one time) about messing with your exhaust system and it truly is a federal offense to change it from what is stock? but I think it also boils down state by state, I know in washington if you live in certain counties like mine, you do not need to get smog checks on any year of vehicle. So I can basically do whatever the heck I want to my truck but my luck is, i would do a lot of stuff to the exhaust then they'd make it so we had to run emissions out here lol.
ive always heard that it wasnt good to run straight pipes....sumthin about burning your valves or sumthin?
That's one of those "old wives tales" that just refuses to die, running open headers or straight pipe WILL NOT burn, crack or warp your valves though it will annoy your neighbors lol.
