If you can't tell the difference between cast and stamped, and you don't know what a runner is on an intake manifold, you should hire someone to do your automotive work.

On the other hand, people come here to learn, and we can make all the difference helping a newbie.
"Runner" is a term used to describe the port that runs from the plenum (where the carb mounts) to the intake port on the head. In this context, the "casting number" is on top of one of the runners.
If you look at those two pictures, you'll see the big T or S.
Pick Your Part. You do the labor.
When I installed the cast iron intake on mt 428cj I lowered the intale to about 1/2" above the engine with the engine hoist and then installed 6" long all thread at the 4 corners. Then when you drop the manifold it is in perfect allignment on the first drop. No fuss, muss or aching back.
OP asked that question in May of 2008, shortly before his last post (ever?) in July of 2008. This thread was brought back from the dead. FWIW. FYI. YMMV. AFAIK. IMO. JFSAG. ETC.
Besides S and T intakes, what else is common for the FE that will fit the 360? (port wise) And, is it reasonable to say just about any dual plane aftermarket aluminum intake would work just fine?
O.K fellas I need advice on swapping out my 2bbl for a new intake and 4bbl. What is a good combo to go with and really don't want to break the bank. I'm currently taking the engine apart to clean and just decided to scrap the old intake and carb. Thanks
. When you tear your engine apart, pay very close attention to the heat cross over passage. I just did the same thing to my 390 and picked up a factory cast intake with no heat cross over passage in the intake. However my heads were equipped with this passage.now I have to block off the passage on the head. Not a big deal when the intake is removed, however a bear when installed. A big FE guy I know had never seen one without the passage. My intake number is d5te-ta. Just sayin'.
