Ok first of all I just want to thank everyone thats helped me figure all this stuff out. Like i said before this is my first diesel. Ive had a couple built gassers but after i bought the 7.3 ill never go back. These things are awesome. I love the way they drive, sound, and handle. But.... I still have a few more questions for the mods im getting ready to do. The main one being. Since im going with the 160cc. single shot injectors and im getting the reg. return mod. does anyone have some suggestions on turbos. I hear alot of good stuff about turbonetics so thats how im leaning but how much bigger do I go? I want one that will get the full potential out of the truck. Thanks
The TN BB turbo seems to be doing a really good job. Garrett's BB turbo would too, but IIRC they're unavailable right now. A van turbo has worked well for many as well, and costs less than the others. However, I'm sure somthing like the TN would probably perform a little better, but it can be over double the cost of a van turbo setup.
Advantage, is that ugly thing is not under your hood anymore. Disadvantage, you need to put a big-*** filter on the framerail somewhere. Not really for you, unless you want to spend the extra bucks on the fuel filter.
BTW i just installed a TN BB like JT said. I had to install it with a plain housing, but i do have a ceramic coated housing on the table that i need to put in. Kevin at BWD was a little late on his word and i installed the turbo with the plain housing due to time constraints. It spools amazingly quick for the larger housing, i was used to the .84 version previously. I dont have my boost gauge hooked up because i broke a ferrule for it, (need another one), i have no guess on how far the needle goes, but i bet it bends that sucker around pretty good. It also is alot freer sounding on the exhaust side, compared to the stocker. My exhaust would just whiirrrrrr with the .84 housing, now i get a nice v8 rumble similar to a 6.0 which i really like.
Nice, so thats the turbonetics 7.3L 1.00 A/R. that you have?? but you havent got the housing on. Im pretty sure that what im goin for. Ok so im gonna skip the fuel bowl delete. but get the reg return. So as of right now here are my plans. Regulated return and intank prepump mod. Then turbonetics 7.3L 1.00 A/R ceramic ball bearing turbo. Then 160cc single shots from beans. Thats my setup unless and objections.
Already got intake and exhaust. Do the tranny when it goes out. Getting gauges when I get the tuner also. I got on bwd and you can get the turbo there but what is a non ebv pedestal?
It's the non exhaust back pressure valve turbo pedestal. Used when you remove the exhaust back pressure valve after the turbo to free up the restriction. I removed my EBPV and so did many others on this site. Helps drop EGT's & drive pressure.
