We try to keep our stuff in good shape. A grand here or there goes a long way to keep things up. We only have one old grain truck with some rust asnd we have been talking about doing some work to it. It just has a 1300 gallon water tank on it for spraying and it pulls a low deck trailer with our chemical handler, 3 inch water pump, chemical, and various support equipment for nursing the sprayer.
Dad and Mom were like that with vehicles and my brother and I grew up with this. Over our years of trucking it was evident to us what a little TLC and attention to detail made in areas like a 'quick look' at a DOT inspection vs a full fledged check over. It also meant quick sales and good prices whenever we put something up for sale - usually got sold to someone who knew the vehicle as its reputation for being always kept in pristine condition followed it.
I guess to much pride to drive anything junky!!!
NA, we`re all sheep here and the few that get dinged don`t bother to raise a fuss other wise there would be a revolt.....
Not me, if I hear about a bad shop, or someone getting screwed, im not shy to spread the word around, and im not shy to tell the people to their face im gonna spread it around.
Whats the worst they can do, smack me one? That might end up being worse for them lol.
I like to drive my vehicles in good shape too. Thats one reason Im looking for a box for my 89, even though the truck as a whole isnt really worth it. My dad was never into the looks of the vehicles as much as the mechanical condition. I learned from him to keep my stuff in tip top shape (when possible) and from being a car and truck guy ever since i could talk, ive taught myself to try and keep the body of a vehicle in good shape, whenever possible
Usually it`s not worth it over a small repair with the time & hassle, lawyers are not cheap unless you have a brother in law that`s a lawyer. It would be real sweet pay back though!
You dont need a lawyer, thats a myth. In canada you can legally defend yourself. If its a true case of someone not using common sence, and abusing their authority, it will be an easy case to win. It wont cost you a thing either to defend yourself. If you want to start stuff for the inspector, that probably wouldnt be hard either, just report him to a supervisor. You would be surprised what some reading on the net will help you.
For instance look at when sherm got in trouble for his exhaust. Thats a small but perfect example you can defend yourself.
Last time I got stopped at a checkstop was in kamloops, bc, at about 3 in the morning, driving home to agassiz from edmonton. That was a long day, I was up at 6 in wabasca, worked a full day, drove to edmonton, then drove home to agassiz haha.
Even if I went through a stop, I would most likely be driving the psd, or the civic, both with passed inspections not even a year ago.
Don`t be too sure about passing ANY spot inspections, remember about the condensation in the light.....They`re creative enough they can probably fail a brand new vehicle on it`s the way to the showroom floor.

Apparently my sister wasn't alone in 700 traffic stops last week over 1600 safty tickets issued.
These seem to be quite finky inspections, my sister car is a 98 Cavalier which is not any kind of bashed up beater.
Can gaurantee yourself if i would have gotten a safety ticket for either of my recently safetied vehicles, I would be bringing it up. I bet if that would have happened I would have been posting telling you guys that you CAN win against that stuff
If i was your sister i would do the exact same thing and contest it.
The thing that gets me is whenever I asked for info on a description of all what it intails to recertify a vehicle they are reluctant to give you that info. I even asked about taking the course at Kelsey for inspections. You have to be sponsored by a shop or dealership to qualify for the course. They are very secretive about what can pass for a vehicle.
I'm glad I found a shop that even told me if it something blantantly wrong they will not pass it, but if I have a burnt out interior light they still will let me pass, but with a reminder to fix it. They look at this as not a safety issue of the cars structure and safety., But SGI considers aburnt interior light a safety hazard. ????. Or Like driving a cargo truck with no rearview mirror. They will not pass it with out the mirror even thou all you see is the back window, this truck you drive with the outside mirrors. That is where the common sense is gone or that shop wants to sell you a mirror.
I've gotten a generic copyfrom them in the past. It still did not explain what they want done or looking for.
If the copy you have has more detail that would be great. I will admitt it has been some number of years since I last had a car inspected. Before the 2 inspections. With the 2 inspections it got more costly to have car inspected unless your keeping it. The aquaintanence I know who works the SGI salvage said that is why their sales have dropped of. Too many rules and inspections on cars that can be put back on the road safely. They use to have a lot fellas buy vehicles to fix and resell. The second inspections ended up costing these guys too much and their profit making substantially dropped.
I never did this. Any vehicle I took for inspection was for me or family and friends.
