Engine noise
I have an 04 F350 and the engine makes this "poomp" sound about every second when idling. The sound seems still there at higher RPM but is not as noticable. It has been doing this for a while, i did not notice any loss of power, but when the engine is cold it does need at least a few minutes to warm up, otherwise it wont even move unless going downhill. Anybody seen this problem before? Sounds like it is coming from the air filter area.

Try unplugging the EGR valve when the engine is off, then start it up and see if it still does this. Do you see a Check Engine Light (CEL) or is it throwing any error codes? How many miles on the truck? Do you use fuel additive?

I have 220 000 km on it, no additives and no engine lights, i have never seen one yet. I will check with my dealer for the updates, i own the truck since last september, no updates have been done since.

You could post the VIN in the OASIS thread at the top of this forum and find out what's been done by Ford service to the truck. It's usually a very interesting and informative read, well worth it.
