i noticed the last few days my 93 ranger xlt 3.0 upon acceleration i hear a ticking like sound, sounds like little stones bagging inside hollow metal container, only does it when moving not when parked, the sound is coming from under the truck around the mid to back end of the truck, not from engine area, any suggestions would be good, i thought maybe catalytic is going
the sound goes with the speed of the vehicle, it is louder when going slow but when going fast it's harder to hear, best explanation for sound would be if you dropped a small stone into the bottom of empty coffee container
i hear the same noise and dont know what that is. i would also like to know. mine started a couple weeks ago. a friend said it mite be a small rock in the cat cover but i looked and did not see anything. any ideas? thanks
I've been having very simalir problems w/ my 99 2wd 5-speed with 130k. It seems that the problem is noticiably more audible in first gear and is worse depending on how much pressure is on the drivetrain. There is no noise what-so-ever when there is no pressure on the drivetrain. I've also noticed a squeaking @ times when in 1st gear. I've also noticed a considerably vibration above 60 MPH
My first thought was U-joints but they seem to be completely fine not loose one bit.
I'm curious to know whether or not you all have had simalir problems and have a simalir truck, mainly 5-speed. Hopefully we can figure out what this (annoying ) problem is!
Problem was the u-joints, me and a buddy put new ones in mine and bingo, no noise. The front u was completely gone and the rear was almost as bad. thanks for responses
