smoke troubleshooting test?
hi yall got a couple questions here. for one this is the situation. my truck sits at idle,no problem. when the go pedal is pushed she blows smoke,white/grey in color. now here is the weird part..... this is the case when the throttle is added when you are driveing,say 10-15 MPH. now once you hit about 25MPH and up to 40 (thats the fastest its been tested) it blows thick black smoke. and not like the puff you get normaly with a chip.like constant black. not sure what is up with this. it doesnt have a chip that i know of.i guess it may have a program installed.how would i have that program removed if thats the case? i have seen some posts on here about smoke but what i cant figure out is how to test to se what is wrong. now i know that im loseing oil. it is consumeing oil. but not coolant.coolant level is normal. this truck had the wireing harnes under the hood cut out and then a new one spliced in.no idea why they spliced in instead of replaceing all of it but im thinking this may be an issue. o and out of al of this even whne the smoke is comeing,black and grey, the engine runs fine, and strong. any experts here have an idea of what this may be or seen this before? o also i have no SES light.

just found another factor...... had my stepdad check my CCV line for any kinks or caps and found out that my CCV doesnt go to my intake.but he tryed to track it and couldnt find where it went to.he said it hooked into a couple other hoses and then he cant see where it goes.now i dont know all that much about these trucks but the only places i have ever heard of the hose goin is either in the intake tube,stock, straight down,cut and jus hanging off the side of the engine,or routed down to the back of the truck. i have never heard of any other spot it goes to when someone does a CCV mod.he said the elbow isnt there either.it comes off the valve cover mount and goes straight towards the front of the engine.and then thats where he loses track of it.any thoughts?

Lots and lots of questions. I'll try and start with a few of them. 1st with regards to the CCV can you post a picture so we can see what it looks like? Your description of the 3 common routes for it is correct. I'd also be interested to see what the spliced wiring harness looks like.
How much oil is the truck consuming? How old is your fuel filter and air filter and are they in good shape? What kind of MPG's are you getting and is it getting worse? I would check and tighten all the IC boots.
It is possible a biased sensor reading is contributing to the smoke, but not the oil consumption.

ok im currently deployed so i can only answer some of thes questions.one is the truck doesnt really get driven except up and down the block.air filter and oil filter is new and fuel filter onyl has a few thousand miles on it.mpg unknown, will deffinatly have the boots checked. for the pics i may be able to get my wife to post them on here.oil comsumption ill have to chack but its not too bad i dont think. my wife says there is oil on top the enigine so that may be where the oil is going.maybe a leak.i need to get her on here and post.

Yes, try and get her on here. We can walk her through how to find the oil leak in the valley. If she's too scared to mess with it we'll try and find a member in your area that will volunteer his/her time to swing by and try and help out.

k guys this is the wife of solareclpse im not really sure if the smoke that is comin out the back is as black as the pic shown but i could get a pic of it and post it the next time i drive it and then write yall back and find out what i would have 2 do 2 find out what the problem mayb.....cuz im really gonna need yalls help cuz i don't know much bout trucks besides changin the oil lol....so just write back and i will figure it out sumtime sunday thanx 4 all yalls help

Wife, this is what i did i drove the truck threw the neighborhood at bout 15-20 mph and it was blowin out the white/grey smoke well i wanted 2 c if it would do the same if it got up 2 bout 30-40mph and thats when the dark black smoke started 2 come out but once i let off the gas it would go back 2 the grey/white smoke and there wasn't any funny sounds or any strang shiftin....but i figured since my husband is n iraq and can't be here 2 drive it and ask yall questions i would since he told me 2 sooo hopefully yall can help thanx alot 4 what info yall give us and have a good nite/day/mornin
