Fuel Overflow Hose

Fuel Overflow Hose
My fuel overflow hose has rotted off on my 92 clubwagon. Is it safe to just plug the pipe coming from the tank to stop the gas fumes? The fuel filler hose is still ok.

Thanks LxMan1. I found out the hard way and it took me 10 mins to put $10.00 in. I've bought new overflow and a new filler hose from Napa and will get my mech to put them on next week. Its to hard for me to get the clamps off and I had a hard enough time getting the clamp off the overflow when I could reach it.
By the way, gas here in Canada is now $1.35/litre. Roughly 4.5 litre to a gallon so its now $6.07 a gallon for gas here!
