I just installed an auto meter rear diff temp gauge. the sender is in the top of the mag-hytech cover, but I'm getting vey inconsistant readings. I only get a reading over 100 deg when I take off from a stop or get in the pettal going down the road. Oil level is right where it should be. Any thoughts on the sender being bad or the gauge?
does the oil go all the way to top in rear diff? i thought you were supposed to leave a little room for it to slosh around? maybe cause for your inconsistant reading i know my level is not full to top so it could just be the way the international place done it on the last owner
No I believe they are only supposed to be filled to the bottom of the axel , and the mag covers have a dip stick that showes a full level of about half way up the diff cover.
It's in the top, which seemed to me not the best place for it but it's the only place on the cover that a sender will thread into. I thought it should be in contact with the fluid also.
i would call and ask mag-hytech and see what they say but i mean if it doesn't come in contact with the actual fluid its not gonna get true reading (we both agree) i dunno much on those covers but they may have one that has a bottom side port also and you may could just drill and tap your own
