I have noticed that several of the members have head ache racks of varying styles on their trucks. I have been unable to find a good out let for these racks. I did find one aluminum one but it's price was close to what I paid for the truck lol.
I just want a plain black painted steel rack that is just a smidgen taller than the cab.
A guy I knew from my hometown just had it and gave it to me but I think mine is a ranch hand. I was just going to fab one up but the one he gave me looks pretty good with a lil bed liner on it!!!
I have always known them as "Head ache" racks. I saw one the other day on a truck as we passed each other going in opposite directions and it was obviously made out of aluminum. It appeared to be about 6-8 inches sitting on the rails and then tapered up towards the top. It was nice.
What I am looking for is something to sit on top of the bed rails, contour the shape of the cab (Kinda) and be approx. 1-2 inches higher than the roof.
I have thought about having one made out of 3''+- tubing and just welding brackets on the bottom to bolt to the bed rails. If I went this route it would have to be air tight so that I could use it for a compressed air supplement for my train horns & tank that are still sitting in the box with my new compressor.
There would also be a small plate on top to mount Ham antennas. Hmmmm so many ideas, wants and desires and so little time, and I mean
"So little time"
I would keep an eye on craigslist, you can find really good stuff for really cheap.
I have one from trailboss that i picked off craigslist for $150, the tubes are hollow and solid on bottom where they contact the bed rails so you could probably convert it to hold air pretty easily. http://trailbosstruck.com/index2.html
I had been looking at T3truck Equipment (t3truckequipment.com) for a rack but found this one istead.

Humm, you gave me an idea, fake stacks .. maybe 4 inch in size on each end then weld what you want to make it work.
The air tank/headache rack sounds like a good idea to me!
3" * .12" wall should hold most any pressure that a truck compressor would make. and have similar volume... lemme come up with something- i might be making one for myself!
will make new post on it if i do!
if ur still looking i know where to get one. or two, or twenty. the guy sells lots of em, and can get fiberglass, stainless, aluminum, or black, or paint to match lol
