Hello All,
85 F-150 302 AOD(thats on its way out) but I'd like to know what to do to make my mileage better, I get like 10 MPG all the time. I did a run and got like 11.5 and that is terrible to me. Its on a 2 barrel Motorcraft carb. What are some of you guys with the 302 getting on mileage and what can I do to make it better? Oil change? Filters? Plugs, Wires, Dis. cap and rotor? And all I have ran in the truck is 93 octane since I have been driving it.
Thanks,
Nick

I'm running a 351W with Edelbrock 600 cfm and I consistently get 14-15 mpg on long hauls. I've got an MSD 6 ignition w/blaster coil and adjustable timing. I can run my truck at 15-16 degrees advance and then I retard the timing to 6-7 for towing. I run side gapped plugs, Doug Thorley full length headers, Mobil 1 oil, K&N open element filter, and removed as much smog stuff as possible.
don;t laugh cause I know there is one wise cracker out there!
302, points and condensor in the ignition part, stock manafolds, K&N open air cleaner. no smog junk. NONE. glass pack for muffler. non-side gapped plugs!
Well, what are some things that I can do to get my mileage to go up?
and the reason that i'm getting rid of the AOD is cause its old and tired slipping in OD, and rough shifting all the time. so its done. If I were you, i'd get E4OD cause its stronger and better, may be computer controlled but it is definately better than the AOD in my opinion.

Simply get the Wide Ratio Kit from FRPP(which is the E40D guts including the lower first gear) for your AOD, add a Lentech manual/auto valve body(which lets you shift a true 1-2-3- pattern with an Electronic OD) and you've got as strong a transmission as anything for around $1000 without trying to figure out the computer controls of an E4OD.
Which I was curious on how you plan to do that????
